How-To: Find Similar Articles & People

how-to-find-similarResonance makes it easy to find similar content and people.

  • Choose the article you want to use
  • Click the Find Similar button
  • See the most similar articles

This is extremely useful if you’re using Resonance to find content to publish to your own networks. You can see all the related stories and choose the one that’s best suited for your audience.

Pro-Tip: You can do the same thing by using search. Enter a word, phrase, or even paste in the entire body of an article in the search box.

How-To: Find News & People Talking About Your Brand

Cane Rosso makes the best pizza in Dallas, but they also know their way around social media (and happen to be one of Resonance’s first beta users).  Let’s use Cane Rosso as an example of how you can use Resonance to find people talking about your brand.

Create a Channel

The first step is to create a channel that searches for content related to your brand. Click on the “+” icon in the top menu bar to create a new channel.

We’ll name it “Cane Rosso” and click next.

Now, let’s search for content.  Since we’re looking for news about “Cane Rosso” and not just news about “cane” or “rosso”, we’ll use quotes to make sure Resonance looks for the phrase. “Cane Rosso” in the Any field, hit next and then confirm our channel.

Select Articles, See Leads

Now that we’ve created our channel, we want to select articles to see the people reading, sharing and talking about Cane Rosso.

You select an article by checking the box on the left. (If the box is greyed out, the article doesn’t have any shares yet.)

Once selected, the article card will highlight blue, and you’ll see a few of the people sharing this article in the top bar, with the total number of shares in the blue button to the right.

We’ll select multiple articles so we can see all the people talking about those articles at once. Once selected, hit the blue leads button to see each person, their tweet and a little bit about them.

For each person and tweet we can also:

  • Follow/Unfollow
  • View their profile
  • Retweet
  • Reply
  • DM

Here’s how fast we can select articles and see what people are saying:

And that’s it!

New Feature: Sorting

Sort by LeadsYou can now sort by leads. It’s a great way to see the most shared, read and talked about articles in a channel.

Here’s How:

Channels show you the most recent articles by default, but now you can quickly change it to sort by leads.

  • Click the sort icon
  • In the drop down, change the sort order from “Most Recent” to “Leads”

And that’s it!

Updated: Channel Wizard

Screen Shot 2014-05-27 at 9.22.13 AMResonance does an amazing job at finding content and the people sharing it. This starts with creating a channel. Based on user feedback, we’ve now made that process much easier.

Creating or Editing a Channel

Resonance uses your search terms to create a query that finds related news, blogs, articles and the people sharing them.

For example, if you’re looking for news related to Social Media and HootSuite but not LinkedIn, your search might look something like this:

ANY: social media, hootsuite

ALL: (leave blank)

This would create a channel searching for news about Social Media that excludes any content mentioning LinkedIn.

*If you used the advanced option and included RSS feeds for Social Media news, all content from those feeds would be included (we don’t apply search terms to RSS feeds).

Channel Name

We’ve also doubled the maximum size of channel names, from 10 to 20 characters.  No more unnecessarily short channel names.   You can use the new channel wizard immediately by either creating a new channel, or editing your existing custom channel.

MarketChorus Releases Resonance App For HootSuite to Provide Data-Driven Lead Generation and Audience Analysis

Resonance uses machine learning to find customers who read, care, and share content about or relevant to your company for better lead-generation and real-time marketing.

Dallas, Texas April 22, 2014 – MarketChorus today announced it has integrated with HootSuite, the world’s most widely used social relationship platform, to launch Resonance, a new app in the HootSuite App Directory.

Resonance for HootSuite is a unique way to discover people relevant to your business for lead generation, audience analysis, and real-time marketing. Where other tools simply search for tweets, keywords, or hashtags, Resonance uses machine learning to analyze paid, owned, and earned content plus the people sharing it. Because it studies entire stories being shared, Resonance can tell you the context of people’s interests and show you what they are saying. With Resonance, you can tailor your content to your audience, turn your now-engaged audience into customers, and convert your customers into brand evangelists. In combining total-content analysis with cutting-edge technology, Resonance becomes an essential tool for online marketers and social media teams, helping each group manage ongoing relationships and discover new leads.

“Understanding people based on the content they read and share is a powerful capability that enables marketers to be data-driven and much more effective,” said Larry Goldstein, CEO, MarketChorus Inc. “Resonance starts by analyzing millions of articles and the social interactions with that content to build a deep understanding of people. From this unique approach, we deliver highly targeted leads, enabling marketers to spend where it can best impact their business.”

Resonance can be used to find people who already show an affinity for your product or industry. Once identified, the app provides detailed information on how that audience reacts to content relevant to your product, brand, market, and competition. Marketers use Resonance for lead generation and to grow targeted audiences, improving marketing campaigns and CRM applications. Social/Community managers use Resonance to discover, track, and publish meaningful content based on trending topics and social signals, making it easy to chart the popularity of the content your company creates, aggregates, or shares.

“Sharing the right content, at the right time, is a challenge for many marketers,” says Mark Holder, Director of Platform, HootSuite. “On social media, the challenge extends to finding the right audience to engage. The Resonance app by MarketChorus offers unique capabilities in helping businesses do just that – identifying the right people to share relevant content with, and building lasting relationships as a result.”

Companies that have used Resonance to power marketing campaigns praise its ease of use, efficiency, and effectiveness.

“Using an audience generated by Resonance, we ran a Promoted Tweet campaign that more than doubled the number of leads to Flixster’s digital movie store,” says Mili Patel, Director, Direct Marketing at WB Digital, Rotten Tomatoes & Flixster. “Compared to standard keyword targeting, we drove 56 percent more leads at nearly half the cost.”

Within HootSuite, customers are easily able to:

  • Track brand, product, industry, and competitor as its published news anywhere on the web.
  • Continuously find all of the content conceptually relevant to a news article, press release, or search.
  • See the people sharing sets of relevant content in real time.
  • Connect with engaged audiences for marketing and lead generation.

To celebrate the launch, Resonance is available with discounted pricing for new users. For more information about Resonance, visit or
